Vovkulaka (from Ukrainian "vovk" - a wolf) - in Ukrainian demonology is a person who can turn into a wolf. There are two types of Vovkulaka - one from birth and another from a curse. It was believed, that the first one is born if a pregnant woman eats meat from an animal that was killed by a wolf. It is possible to lift the curse, but the born one will remain so for life. Vovkulaka cannot howl, but only moans and cries. Sometimes Vovkulaka tries to go to people for help, but they can also hunt people.
