SVITYLKA

In the ancient beliefs of Ukrainians, Svitylka (from Ukrainian “svitlo” - the light) is a magical creature that appears in the fields and streets in autumn and represents the transition period from summer to winter. She is the darkness and the light that helps to overcome it. On September 14, the so-called "wedding of the candle" is celebrated, which was especially popular in the old days among craftsmen and artisans. It is believed that Svitylka looks like a girl with three candles (sometimes with the candles instead of hands). According to other sources, she is a demonic spirit that leads travelers into swamps and forests.
