Cholera is the embodiment of disease and death in Ukrainian demonology. It is described as a tall, skinny girl or an old woman with poison flowing from her nose and mouth. She walks around villages and towns. And wherever she goes, an epidemic and pestilence begin. Some people believed that Upyr or Witch could summon Cholera. One could protect oneself from her by singing carols (ritual songs of winter holidays), placing crosses of aspen near the roads leading to the settlement, and creating a sacred circle.
