KHARAKTERNYK
In Ukrainian folklore, a kharakternyk is a powerful sorcerer and warrior who was either born with such a gift or has learned to be one from others. Usually, only Cossacks were called kharakternyk. It was believed, that the forces of nature, animals, and birds obey them. They could turn into wolves, falcons, and hounds. They have the gift of hypnotizing people and finding treasures. They can communicate with witches, devils, and ghouls, but they do not harm people.
